Average auto insurance rate by state

Choose your state to see the average auto insurance premium that drivers pay.

NerdWallet averaged rates for 40-year-old men and women for all zip codes in one of the 50 states and Washington, DC, in which the insurer was one of the largest insurance companies. (in terms of written premiums). The “good drivers” had no record of infractions and an insurance credit rating considered “good” by each insurer; a “good behavior” discount has been included for this profile. The sample drivers had the following coverage limits:

  • Liability coverage of $ 100,000 per person.

  • Liability coverage of $ 300,000 for bodily injury per accident.

  • Property damage liability coverage of $ 50,000 per accident.

  • Coverage of $ 100,000 for bodily injury of uninsured motorists per person.

  • Coverage of $ 300,000 for bodily injury to uninsured motorists by accident.

  • Collision coverage with $ 1,000 deductible.

  • Full coverage with $ 1,000 deductible.

We used a 2016 Toyota Camry LE in all cases and assumed 12,000 annual miles driven. In all cases, paperless delivery, electronic signature delivery and electronic funds transfer discount were automatically applied. These are sample rates generated by Quadrant Information Services. Your own rates will be different.
