BOSTON, January 25, 2022 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ — MentorWorks Education Capital, Inc. (MentorWorks) announced a new learning program in partnership with Blue Ridge Bank, NA, (the “Bank”), the national banking subsidiary of Blue Ridge Bankshares, Inc. (US NYSE: BRBS). This program will provide hands-on learning opportunities for people from low-income and underserved backgrounds in Virginia. This will be a first-of-its-kind paid learning opportunity aimed at closing the wealth gap and creating social equity while giving banks the opportunity to receive Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) benefits. .
Candidates will have the opportunity to develop their resume and industry-applicable skills under the guidance of committed advocates for workforce development programs. MentorWorks provides access to training and career paths in IT, cybersecurity, data analytics, customer service, sales, and more.
“We are proud of this program which is designed to help low-income and underserved individuals access experiential learning opportunities from a great employer like Blue Ridge Bank.” said the CEO of MentorWorks, Karthik Krishnan“This program is the first of its kind, designed to improve the workforce development of those traditionally excluded from the equation, support income equality and create social equity. It is also a great opportunity for employers, including the bank and its business partners, looking to access diverse and skilled talent.”
“It makes all the difference for someone from an underserved background to have such an opportunity. These people don’t have easy access to social capital – this includes all the advice, professional support and job networks and internships that people from affluent families naturally have,” Krishnan continued. “BRB is a true leader in the field of fundraising and is now showing its leadership in the field of community development and workforce development . This initial program will start with the bank’s talent needs and then be offered to the bank’s business partners. Banks are the center of commerce in their community, and given this position, it makes sense that they could also become a reservoir of talent for the local business community. »
“During this unprecedented time, recruiting has become more difficult than ever,” said Steve Farbstein, Chief Revenue and Development Officer of Blue Ridge Bank. “We are proud to partner with MentorWorks on this apprenticeship program and hope to not only provide these workers with opportunities for comprehensive training and upskilling, but also to develop strong talent pipelines for the future.”
